Getting Started

Your Child's First Dental Visit

We recommend a first dental visit by age one, or when the first tooth appears — whichever comes first. Starting early means we can guide healthy habits from the very beginning.

📅

When to Visit

We recommend age 1, or when the first tooth comes through, to monitor development and provide guidance on maintaining good oral health.

🔍

What to Expect

A gentle examination plus a soft, child-friendly introduction to the clinic environment — no pressure, no rush.

💚

How to Prepare

Keep things simple. Positive language and calm, confident support help your child feel relaxed and ready.

✅

Every Child's Pace

We use patience, warm communication and gentle guidance throughout — never a rush or expectation.

What is a Dental Home? A dental home is an ongoing relationship between your child, your family, and your paediatric dentist. It provides consistent, comprehensive dental care in a familiar environment as your child grows and their oral health needs change.

Common Questions

Parent FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most often from families visiting NLPD for the first time.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Nymphia?↓

No referral is needed. Although we often receive referrals from GPs and dentists, you can book directly for check-ups, emergency care or specific treatments.

Is my child eligible for Medicare CDBS?↓

Many Australian children are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). We participate in the CDBS but do not bulk bill. Check eligibility at servicesaustralia.com.au prior to your visit.

What if my child is anxious about the dentist?↓

We specialise in caring for anxious children. Our child-friendly environment, gentle approach, and options like nitrous oxide or general anaesthesia ensure comfortable, supportive care.

How long is the first consultation?↓

Approximately 45–60 minutes, allowing a complete medical history review and thorough clinical examination with time for questions, never rushed.

What are chalky teeth?↓

Chalky teeth (Molar Hypomineralisation) is a condition where tooth enamel doesn't form properly, making teeth weaker and more prone to decay. Early detection is important for treatment planning. Download our practice flyer for more information.

When should my child first visit the dentist?↓

By age one, or when the first tooth appears — whichever comes first. Early visits help guide healthy habits and build a positive relationship with dental care from the start.
